Lindenhafen Fishing Resort is located 4 miles east of Gasmata on the south
coast of West New Britain. Nestled among coconut trees on the sandy
foreshore of an 800-hectare coconut plantation, the Resort is protected from the
Solomon Sea by the scenic Linden Harbour. There is a safe anchorage in
front of the Resort for visiting Game Boats and large Live-aboard Dive Boats.
Eight rivers lie within one hour's boat travel of the Resort. These
magnificent rivers are home to the legendary PNG Black Bass, Spot Tail Bass and
Mangrove Jack.
The blue water fishing is also excellent with the 9th deepest trench in the
world 95 kilometres (60 miles) offshore. The resulting sub-surface current
push marlin, yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tuna, giant wahoo and an array of other
blue water fish to within 4 miles of the Resort. It is not uncommon to go
out for a days fishing and catch up to 10 different species.
Accommodation is bungalow style. There are 10 bungalows, 6 with ensuite.
The main building offers an air-conditioned lounge, fully stocked bar and a
large deck for dining and general relaxation. All buildings are close to
the water and have unrestricted views of the sea, islands and reefs.
Gasmata, and the surrounding coastline, was famous during the 2nd World War
as a Japanese stronghold, attracting air raids by allied forces, and there are a
multitude of war wrecks around the area. Other activities include
snorkelling, swimming in natural limestone spring pools, village tours, hiking
to waterfalls or just lazing about under the shade of a coconut tree on your own
private island.
Lindenhafen has a six-month season from November to the end of April.
Access to the plantation is via fixed wing charter from Hoskins. The 35
minute flight takes guests over a 2,000 metre (6,000 ft) rainforest-covered
mountain range.
As part of your trip itinerary, transit nights are spent at Walindi Plantation Resort, renowned world-wide for diving, service and its tropical atmosphere.
