Baia
Sportfishing
Lodge, on the Bismarck Coast of WNB, offers sports fishing in both fresh and salt water. Located
on a small peninsula that makes up part of the Open Bay shoreline, Baia - "the best Bass fishery" - offers excellent fishing
for both Black and Spot Tail Bass. Offshore, the water and reefs are alive
with tropical reef species in a virtually pristine marine environment.
Six river
systems are within the bay and all have Spot tailed and Black Bass, Mangrove
Jacks, Jungle Perch, Tarpon, Trevally, and Fingermark. The Ocean and reefs provide great fishing action from pelagics such as Spanish mackerel,
Barracuda, Yellow fin and Dogtooth Tuna, Giant Trevally,
Wahoo and reef species like Mahi mahi, Queen fish, Coral trout, Emperor and Sweet lip.
Located on the north coast of WNB, you can travel to Baia Lodge from Kimbe by road or sea depending on the weather and client preference. There is great scenery on the way and if traveling by boat there is a good chance of catching fish before you even get to the Lodge.
Baia's 22 foot
sports fishing vessels are customised to suit all types of
fishing, both river and off-shore. Fishing equipment is provided, on a replacement basis should it be damaged or
lost. Recommended lures can be purchased at the lodge.
All rooms are large, with breathtaking views of the Bismarck Sea, ceiling fans and 240w electricity outlets. Twelve volt alternative power is also connected when the generator is off. Flushable toilets, hot water, and all the comforts of home make Baia Lodge a fantastic place to escape and experience a unique bit of paradise. Rooms are generally shared but whenever possible, each person may have their own.
Meals are both Western and Chinese-style and of course fresh seafood is
always part of the menu. Simply notify any special requests in advance and Baia
will try to make those arrangements so that your trip can be perfect.
The people of Baia Village are a friendly people and would be more than happy to show off some of their traditional dancing or a tour through their village. Excursions for Bush Walking and Bird Watching enthusiasts can also be arranged with the village guides. Pristine coral reefs surround the Bay for snorkeling and there are picturesque freshwater springs not far from the Lodge for those who simply want to unwind and enjoy a swim and a day’s picnic.
